GUDRUN Klaksvík, FAROE ISLANDS
Since the mid 1990s, gillnetting for monkfish has become a specialty of Gudrun, owner and operator of longliner/gillnetter by the same name. During the Faroe monkfish harvesting season from March through October, the six-crew fishing vessel is busy exclusively catching the valueable species in shallow waters off the islands. As for the remainder of the year, the Gudrun is engaged in longlining for cod and haddock.

Since it was totally refurbished in 2003, the Gudrun has been performing extremely well, harvesting more than 200 metric tons of monkfish last year. The owning and operating company purchased the vessel in 2001 and its predecessor in 1990. However, fishing vessels and skilled skippers have been in the family since the early 1930s when the first Gudrun was purchased, a sloop originally brought to the Faroes from Iceland about 10 years earlier. Captain of Gudrun is Mr. Kristin Willemsen.
